Apres ski in Chatel for English speaking visitors often revolves around the Avalanche and Tunnel bars as well as the Reserve. The mainly Dutch Lion O'r bar has a happy hour every day at apres-ski time.

Apart from skiing, snowboarding or the other mountain activities that Chatel has to offer, there are also other activities available including paragliding, dog sledding, ice skating and walking. Chatel has a good selection of shops with an obvious bias towards shops supplying equipment for the activities that take place on the local mountains. There are 2 mini-markets or grocery stores in the centre of Chatel and the main supermarket is the Intermarche on the road from Linga to Chapelle d'Abondance. << click here to read more >>

Just down the road from Chatel are the lovely villages of La Chapelle d'Abondance and Abondance.

Chatel sits at the head of the Abondance Valley in the northern French Alps. It is a short distance away from Avoriaz (only 6 miles as the crow flies), which often receives the most annual recorded snowfall out of all the French Alpine resorts, with a hefty 8m annual average.
